Teaching online relationships and safety with DB Primary

24 May, 2021

At Annfield Plain Juniors School in Stanley teachers and children are using DB Primary on a daily basis. It has been a useful tool not only during the pandemic, but also when returning to the classroom.

Laura Smith is the ICT coordinator. She tells us that DB Primary has proven to be a great asset in supporting the planned curriculum; especially when it comes to teaching the children online etiquette and general online safety.

The independence children are given when writing their own emails and blogs and having their own individual logins has been an important aspect when talking about how to interact online. The activities on the topic are child friendly yet informative, and the learning pathways ensure progression through skills and year groups.

All 140 children at Annfield Plain Juniors School are using the tool with great success, and for the teachers it has been valuable to start their lessons using the teaching tools.

We also enjoy using our class blogs to document achievements at home to share with each other, as well as writing blog posts about achievements completed in school to share with parents.

Moving forward Annfield Plain Juniors School will continue to use DB Primary as a tool for children who are absent from school but able to complete work, to ensure they are not missing out on education.

We use DB primary as an aid for children who are absent due to self-isolating or general sickness so they can continue to complete their work online. We have also continued to use the pathways to set work for maths, English and ICT which are completed in school during those lessons.
